I would like to introduce this blog by telling you a little bit about myself, my life, my loves, and my photography. My name is Azucena Moreno, but you can call me Susie. Two months ago I married my husband Augusto in Las Vegas, NV [please see above image photographed by my talented friend Kristen Swanson Paralles]. I’d lived in Las Vegas for a little under five years while my husband Augusto had about 15 or so years there. Two weeks after we tied the knot, we surprised all our family and friends and packed everything and moved to Portland, Oregon. We don’t have family here, we don’t know anyone here, heck, I’d only visited once prior for a 24hr stint for a job interview three weeks before the wedding, and Augusto, well he drove blind.
So why did we move? The move was our leap of faith into life. We both felt we needed a change, fresh air and a brand new start. I had a very stable job that I hated and part time work as a photographer. Augusto was between jobs. One night, Augusto and I jokingly talked about where we would live if we could live anywhere in the United States. Our requirements: must a big city or fairly close to one (husband), must have grass & trees (me!), and must be on the West coast (for family reasons). The game was on and it came down to Seattle, WA, Portland, OR and New York, NY. Yes, NY didn’t meet any of our requirements…but hey! It’s NEW YORK! After we did some research (aka 30 minutes on google) we decided that a move to Portland was actually not only feasible, but was also the most amazing place we ever read about. Dog friendly, earth conscious, artistic, unique, filled with hiking & biking trails and tons of things to see within driving distance. Surrounded by mountains, rivers and close enough to the ocean. It seemed perfect. We quickly decided to start looking for jobs and I happened to land a great job for the State of Oregon almost immediately. And so the move happened almost instantaneously, and all while we were planning and executing our big day! Yes folks, there was a lot of stress back in those days!
Now a little bit about me: I’ve been a photographer since 2006 after I graduated from the Hallmark Institute of Photography. In Las Vegas, I had a small business named Sol Images. And as much as it grew and as much as it loved it, it was completely separate from my personal life. With this move I’ve decided to not only change the name to Susie Moreno Photography, but to open up my readers to images I capture not only in weddings and portraits, but also in my travels and my personal life. It’s time for a change. And this time, I want to share everything.
Until we meet again.
