Trip to Seattle

The idea was crazy: take a vacation in the middle of “wedding season,” and in the middle of one of the busiest couple of weeks of the year for me.  But I knew we needed it.  I knew my husband and I deserved a vacation together, away from all the work.  We’ve now lived in the Pacific Northwest for a year and a half and we still hadn’t ventured up North to Seattle.  So we finally did: we had our very first trip to Seattle!

After we checked into our hotel, we did what most newcomers do when they reach Seattle, we headed straight to the Seattle Public Market.  We arrived around noon on a Saturday, so it was absolutely crazy, I didn’t even get my camera out and ended up just enjoying my first time there, but we came back and snapped a few images from the famous market.
Trip to SeattleWe ended up walking downtown to get a feel for the city.  We loved how diverse it is, how many unique shops and restaurants they have.  Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to go inside the Seattle Art Museum, but this is definitely on my to do list for our next visit.
Trip to Seattle Art MuseumTrip to SeattleAfter we had a fabulous lunch, we were off to our ghost tour.  It was a great idea: youthful and fun with some great information on the history of such a great city. We even ended up below ground underneath the old tunnels in Seattle.  **spooky!**
Trip to Seattle Ghost TourThe following morning, with only about 4 hours of sleep we headed out to our whale watching excursion.  The cruise took us down deception pass towards Orcas Island.  Trip to SeattleBye Seattle!Trip to SeattleAnd so our trip to Seattle actually took us out to Seattle and onto murky waters.  Brilliant!Trip to SeattleTrip to SeattleWe had a stop midday at Friday Harbor for lunch with just enough time for a relaxing meal and a walk around the pier.Trip to SeattleTrip to Seattle | Friday HarborFound this little guy who wasn’t scared to be around people…Trip to Seattle , Friday HarborAfter a much needed great nights rest, we woke up early the next day to walk around and discover more of Seattle.
Trip to SeattleWe ended up walking towards the Seattle great wheel and arrived just as it opened. BINGO.Trip to SeattleTrip to SeattleDid I mention how scared I am for most ferris wheels?  Thankfully, this was completely enclosed…but that’s not to say I didn’t have a minor panic attack.  But it was totally minor!  Also, please excuse my out of focus self.  This is what happens when my husband takes hold of my camera.Trip to SeattleThe view was absolutely stunning from up top.
Trip to SeattleSeriously, the view…even with the raindrops.Trip to SeattleAfterwards, e headed to the destination of all destinations in town for lunch: the Space Needle!Trip to Seattle | Space NeedleLots of fabulous angles are my best friend.Trip to Seattle | Space NeedleWe were smart enough to make reservations (and remind the staff about or window preference) and we had a marvelous view for our entire stay.  We then finished our visit by headed up to the observatory deck for some fresh air.
Trip to Seattle | Space NeedleAgain.  Not a bad view.Trip to SeattleAnd for the big finale, we visited Safeco Field for a local Mariners game….as rival fans.  Yes, my husband is a native New Yorker and a fanatic over the Yankees.  We cheered the whole night until our voices cracked and it was absolutely worth it.  And yes, the Yankees won the Mariners 7-2!  Sorry Seattle!Trip to Seattle |Mariners

Well that’s it! The highlights from our trip.  I will be the first to admit it: we’re hardcore tourist but I absolutely love being a tourist.  I mean, seriously, who has more fun than someone seeing all the major hot spots in a city.  I could do this for life!
