The idea was crazy: take a vacation in the middle of “wedding season,” and in the middle of one of the busiest couple of weeks of the year for me. But I knew we needed it. I knew my husband and I deserved a vacation together, away from all the work. We’ve now lived in the Pacific Northwest for a year and a half and we still hadn’t ventured up North to Seattle. So we finally did: we had our very first trip to Seattle!
After we checked into our hotel, we did what most newcomers do when they reach Seattle, we headed straight to the Seattle Public Market. We arrived around noon on a Saturday, so it was absolutely crazy, I didn’t even get my camera out and ended up just enjoying my first time there, but we came back and snapped a few images from the famous market.
We ended up walking downtown to get a feel for the city. We loved how diverse it is, how many unique shops and restaurants they have. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to go inside the Seattle Art Museum, but this is definitely on my to do list for our next visit.
After we had a fabulous lunch, we were off to our ghost tour. It was a great idea: youthful and fun with some great information on the history of such a great city. We even ended up below ground underneath the old tunnels in Seattle. **spooky!**
The following morning, with only about 4 hours of sleep we headed out to our whale watching excursion. The cruise took us down deception pass towards Orcas Island. Bye Seattle! And so our trip to Seattle actually took us out to Seattle and onto murky waters. Brilliant! We had a stop midday at Friday Harbor for lunch with just enough time for a relaxing meal and a walk around the pier.Found this little guy who wasn’t scared to be around people…After a much needed great nights rest, we woke up early the next day to walk around and discover more of Seattle.
We ended up walking towards the Seattle great wheel and arrived just as it opened. BINGO.Did I mention how scared I am for most ferris wheels? Thankfully, this was completely enclosed…but that’s not to say I didn’t have a minor panic attack. But it was totally minor! Also, please excuse my out of focus self. This is what happens when my husband takes hold of my camera. The view was absolutely stunning from up top.
Seriously, the view…even with the raindrops.Afterwards, e headed to the destination of all destinations in town for lunch: the Space Needle!Lots of fabulous angles are my best friend. We were smart enough to make reservations (and remind the staff about or window preference) and we had a marvelous view for our entire stay. We then finished our visit by headed up to the observatory deck for some fresh air.
Again. Not a bad view. And for the big finale, we visited Safeco Field for a local Mariners game….as rival fans. Yes, my husband is a native New Yorker and a fanatic over the Yankees. We cheered the whole night until our voices cracked and it was absolutely worth it. And yes, the Yankees won the Mariners 7-2! Sorry Seattle!
Well that’s it! The highlights from our trip. I will be the first to admit it: we’re hardcore tourist but I absolutely love being a tourist. I mean, seriously, who has more fun than someone seeing all the major hot spots in a city. I could do this for life!
